Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has delivered an update on his fitness after being substituted against West Ham yesterday.

The talisman scored the first goal during a 2-0 win and after the game, he spoke to BBC Sport.

So, what did Awoniyi say after Forest saw out a big three points against West Ham? Let’s take a closer look…

Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi delivers fitness update

Well, Forest fans might have been left fearing the worst when Awoniyi was withdrawn after receiving treatment from the physio.

The striker has only recently returned from an operation on his groin and Nuno Espirito Santo is monitoring his fitness.

Awoniyi scored for the fifth time this season when he slid home in first-half stoppage time.

In the second half, he went off – seemingly injured – but he’s now erased any fears that supporters might have had.

He told BBC Sport: “I’m fine it was just part of the plan from the manager so that I’m not overplayed.”

Awoniyi is key to fortunes this season

Nothing against Chris Wood or Divock Origi but ultimately, Forest are more of a physical threat going forward when Awoniyi plays.

As a result, the Reds really must focus on keeping him fit and firing for the remainder of the campaign.

Yesterday, his goal was simply sublime and he gave the West Ham defenders a torrid time leading the Forest line.

The key since Forest signed Awoniyi from Union Berlin has been keeping him fit for prolonged periods of time.

Forest are still in a fierce battle against relegation and the chances of staying in the division hinge largely on having Awoniyi available.
