Dermot Gallagher and Sue Smith have been left stunned that Neco Williams wasn’t awarded a penalty during Saturday’s win for Nottingham Forest.
The pair have been speaking on Ref Watch on Sky Sports News this morning.
So, what have Gallagher and Smith said about the incident that occurred in the Forest game on Saturday? Let’s take a closer look…
Dermot Gallagher shares whether Forest should have had a penalty on Saturday
Well, another game passes and Forest can look back on another weekend where the Reds will feel hard done by.
Maxwel Cornet clearly stood on Williams in the penalty area but nothing was given by the referee or the VAR.
Forest were left to feel aggrieved once again – and it gives Mark Clattenburg something to think about after he checked in at Forest.
Gallagher and Smith both believe the officials got this one wrong at the weekend.
Gallagher told Ref Watch on Sky Sports News: “I thought it was a penalty Rob, he catches him on the back of the ankle. It’s one of them again where I can only hazard a guess that the VAR doesn’t think it meets the threshold but I think it’s a penalty.”

Smith concurred, saying: “It’s a poor decision and Forest fans are aggrieved because a lot of decisions have gone against them. It’s one of them where it’s just a nailed-on penalty.”
Forest have every right to feel frustrated
It’s two weeks running that Forest have now been subjected to a couple of ridiculously bad decisions from the match officials.
This one against West Ham wasn’t an easy one for the referee to see but he should definitely have been sent to check it by VAR.
Williams was clearly in pain after the incident and the Forest man required treatment on the field.
Appointing Clattenburg will hopefully help Forest when it comes to understanding certain things a bit more.
It will be hoped that further down the line, Forest can get a bit of a rub of the green with some decisions given what has gone against the team of late.
