Mark Clattenburg has lifted the lid on his new role working with Nottingham Forest.

The newly appointed member of staff at Forest has been speaking to the Daily Mail.

So, what has Clattenburg said about his new role working for Forest? Let’s take a closer look…

What Mark Clattenburg has said about Forest role

Well, it’s quite a remarkable situation this and Forest have gone to unprecedented lengths.

Mark Halsey thinks Forest appointing Clattenburg is a positive and now the man himself has opened up on his duties.

Saturday was the first time that the former referee has been in place at the City Ground as part of his new role.

Now, he’s hoping to provide the club with some assistance when it comes to understanding the decisions that are made.

He told the Daily Mail: “I knew Evangelos Marinakis from my work with the Greece Football Federation.

“I will be working with Nottingham Forest under the title of match and performance analyst. I will help in the understanding of how and why certain decisions are made, prepare matchday packs on the officiating teams and one of my other aims will be to improve the relationship between the club and the PGMOL.

“Forest have been on the receiving end of some controversial calls this season. I was at the City Ground on Saturday as they were denied a clear penalty when Maxwel Cornet stood on Neco Williams’ foot.

“My pre-match pack mentioned that Thomas Bramall is a young referee getting to grips with the Premier League, while Tim Robinson was acting as VAR for the first time this season.

“Considering how much work goes into preparing for Premier League matches, it makes sense that clubs add to their planning by ensuring they understand how rules are being interpreted by referees – on the field and in the VAR hub. One decision can be the difference between winning and losing.”

Strip it back and Clattenburg could be good City Ground appointment

Okay, there is a bit of an element that Forest are once again doing Forest sort of things – but this could actually be useful.

Clattenburg providing matchday packs on match officials could be extremely useful for Forest going into games.

They will get an understanding of what each referee may or may not give and that can only be beneficial.

Forest thankfully didn’t have to rage too much about the decision that Neco Williams didn’t get on Saturday.

Other incidents this season, however, have seen Forest drop points that would have made their league position more comfortable.

Ultimately, Forest have to take care of their own business when it comes to winning football matches.

However, appointing Clattenburg is another sign of Nuno Espirito Santo showcasing a meticulous approach.
