‘Like a trapeze artist’… Garth Crooks thinks Nottingham Forest star was embarrassing on Saturday

Garth Crooks has taken a swipe at Nottingham Forest forward Morgan Gibbs-White for his role in Kalvin Phillips being sent off on Saturday.

The pundit was speaking to BBC Sport.

So, what has Crooks said about Forest star Gibbs-White? Let’s take a closer look…

What Garth Crooks has said about Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

Well, it would appear as though the pundit isn’t best impressed with Gibbs-White for his role in the decision to send Phillips off.

The midfielder was dismissed for a late challenge on Gibbs-White when he’d already been cautioned for a shove on Nicolas Dominguez.

Forest playmaker Gibbs-White was tackled late by Phillips and referee, Tom Bramall, correctly awarded the England international a second yellow card.

Crooks thinks the reaction of Gibbs-White helped make the referee’s mind up, however, and doesn’t like what he did.

He told BBC Sport: “The dismissal of Kalvin Phillips in West Ham’s 2-0 defeat was desperately poor.

“If we’re now sending players off for attempting to win the ball, then the game is in a perilous situation.

“As for Morgan Gibbs-White exaggerating the challenge, and flying through the air like a trapeze artist, he should be ashamed of himself.

“Getting players sent off is not what the game has ever been about.”

Crooks has got this completely wrong about Gibbs-White

In our view, this is extremely harsh on Forest star Gibbs-White who is as honest as the day is long.

In general, the player constantly tries to ride tackles and often jumps straight back after he’s been tackled himself.

On Saturday, there were two incidents where Vladimir Coufal went down clutching his face – trying to prompt the VAR to take a look at potential red cards.

These appear to have escaped the attention of Crooks, however, who has insisted on bashing Forest ace Gibbs-White instead.

Phillips was sent off for a yellow card challenge that ultimately – by the letter of the law – was a stonewall yellow card.

His first one was for a petulant push on Dominguez and perhaps it’s Phillips who needs to control his discipline in the future.

Gibbs-White has never been one to play-act since he came to Forest and in our view, these comments from Crooks are extremely harsh, to say the least.
