Jesse Marsch has been linked with Nottingham Forest in the past and he’s now shared that he’s a huge fan of Taiwo Awoniyi.

The man sacked by Leeds United after a 1-0 defeat to Forest 12 months ago has been speaking on Monday Night Football.

Well, it’s clear that he’s a huge fan of the 26-year-old – and he tried to sign him for Leeds United before Forest swooped in for Awoniyi.

It’s no secret that Marsch was sought by Forest in October 2022 when Dane Murphy was still the chief executive at the City Ground.

Given his less-than-impressive work with Leeds, it’s perhaps a lucky escape that Murphy couldn’t convince Evangelos Marinakis over the American.

Now, Marsch has been praising Forest star Awoniyi – and he’s explained what it is that makes him so good as a Premier League striker.

He told Monday Night Football: “Yeah, we looked at him for Leeds and he came from the Bundesliga as well. Good player, technically very good, strong, fast and a great touch there for that goal.

“He’s always ready and he’s always in good spots. I think a lot of his chances come in half chances around the six-yard box but you have to be ready to be in those positions.”

Marsch raves about Awoniyi

How the American manager must be wishing he’d managed to lure Awoniyi to Leeds before he signed for Forest.

Had he managed to do that, the Whites might have stayed in the Premier League and it could be Forest now operating in the EFL.

Awoniyi has been a revelation since signing for Forest. He’s scored 17 goals in all competitions and has proved a tremendous signing.

At 26, the striker has a number of years left on his side and the Reds will hope that they can remain in the Premier League and keep hold of the star striker.
