Nottingham Forest finally saw the back of Lyle Taylor in the summer and on Tuesday night he was in hot water playing for Cambridge United.

The incident that saw Taylor red-carded for his new club was captured by a number of accounts on X .

So, what exactly did former Forest striker Taylor do to land himself in trouble on Tuesday night? Let’s take a closer look…

Ex-Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor sent off for Cambridge

Well, it proved a frustrating night for Taylor as Cambridge were defeated 2-1 by Bolton at The Abbey Stadium.

The result leaves Cambridge five points clear of the relegation zone and Taylor will now miss three matches.

A move to Forest for Taylor didn’t really prove overly successful for the striker signed from Charlton.

He scored just eight goals in 61 appearances and his most memorable strikes came against Bristol City in the promotion-winning season.

On that occasion he scored twice in injury time as Forest won 2-1 against the Robins – here things were very different.

With Cambridge chasing the game, Taylor elbowed Bolton defender Joe Iredale off the ball and was shown a straight red card.

In fairness, his move to the League One outfit hasn’t been a bad one and he’s scored three goals for his new club in eight outings.

Forest fans won’t be surprised by this

Taylor was a fiery character during his time at Forest. Although he never overstepped the mark, he always wore his heart on his sleeve.

Now he’s dropped back into League One, he may find things a little frustrating if they don’t go his way.

Clearly, this was one of those moments. As a result, Taylor has to learn from this thing if he’s to win a new deal with Cambridge.

From a Forest perspective, it was great to see the back of Taylor in the summer of 2023.

He spent the entire 2022/23 campaign kicking his heels and training away from the first team. Ultimately, the wages the club spent on Taylor weren’t ideal at all for Forest.
