Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel looks to be on the mend following his injury issues and has now been spotted in training.

The defender has been snapped by the club’s official media.

So, what is the situation with Montiel and is he ready to return for Forest? Let’s take a closer look…

Gonzalo Montiel spotted in Nottingham Forest training

Well, this has to be seen as a positive step with Montiel looking as though he could be on the way back.

The club’s official media team has posted some footage from training – and Montiel is hard at work in the clips.

Furthermore, it looks as though he was on the winning team during a small-sided game that was played in today’s session.

Montiel is another example of a Forest player who has kicked on under Nuno Espirito Santo having been given a proper chance to shine.

The 27-year-old is perhaps still striving for some consistency but certainly, in an attacking sense, he’s looked very useful.

Montiel missed both of the games against Newcastle and West Ham but now there will be a discussion to be had over his fitness ahead of this weekend.

Montiel might have to wait patiently for his chance again

Although Espirito Santo has largely given Montiel the right-back spot, it would be harsh to now drop his Forest teammate Neco Williams.

He was very impressive last weekend and it was his hard work on the right that allowed Forest to score a second goal.

Williams has kicked on this season after a pretty poor 2022/23 campaign when he struggled to get in ahead of Serge Aurier.

Having two players for each position is something that every club would love to have – with Forest not an exception.

Now, with Montiel seemingly close to a return and Williams riding the crest of a wave, Forest look to be well-stocked in that area.

Throw Ola Aina into the mix as well and things are looking very rosy indeed for Forest when it comes to the full-back positions.
