Nottingham Forest have been dealt another injury blow – this time over Portuguese defender Nuno Tavares.

The injury has been confirmed by head coach Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to Nottinghamshire Live.

So, what has the Forest boss said about Tavares after he didn’t play against Aston Villa yesterday? Let’s take a closer look…

What Nuno Espirito Santo has said about Forest defender Nuno Tavares

Well, it never rains it pours at Forest and just as Tavares was getting into his stride, he’s now had a setback.

Last week after a 2-0 win over West Ham, Tavares was praised by Shay Given for his efforts as Forest claimed a big win.

This weekend, he was forced to sit out and now it’s not good news for the 24-year-old on loan from Arsenal.

Espirito Santo told Nottinghamshire Live: “Tavares is injured. He got injured in the West Ham game and is going to be out for a while.”

Forest dealt another injury blow

With a sizeable squad to choose from Espirito Santo should have enough to cover the loss of Tavares at Forest.

However, the frustrating part of this is that Tavares was looking to start showcasing exactly what he’s capable of.

Now, he’s going to be out for a little while and Forest will have to weigh up some other options.

Yesterday, Moussa Niakhate played there but in our view, that’s not an option that should be considered a long-term option.

Harry Toffolo is an option to consider to replace Tavares for Forest and before Espirito Santo came to the club, he was the number one option.

Another player who can feature there is Ola Aina and it will now be interesting to see who Espirito Santo trusts to replace Tavares.

The head coach must be wondering what he’s walked into at Forest, with a number of injuries being suffered since he took over.
