Richard Keys and Andy Gray have weighed into the discussion around Nottingham Forest and the wrong decision by Paul Tierney yesterday.

The two pundits were discussing the incident on BeIN Sports.

So, what did Keys and Gray have to say about the decision by Tierney that saw Forest eventually concede an injury-time goal? Let’s take a closer look…

What Richard Keys and Andy Gray have said about Paul Tierney incident involving Forest

Well, it would appear as though the two experienced pundits were just stunned by what happened at the City Ground in the closing stages yesterday.

Forest were well and truly robbed and it needs calling out for what it is!

With minutes remaining, a Liverpool player went down injured and Tierney stopped play with Callum Hudson-Odoi in possession.

Instead of returning the ball to Forest where they originally had it, the referee instead dropped it to the Liverpool goalkeeper.

The rest is history, with Darwin Nunez scoring to end the resilience of Forest who had defended tirelessly for 90-plus minutes.

Keys and Gray weren’t happy and Gray was first up to discuss the incident.

He told BeIN Sports: “You can’t take the ball off a team in possession in the last third, and just say to the opponent, ‘You can go, you’ve got the football.’

“That’s nonsense. They (Forest) were furious. They’d put so much into it. They really had worked hard. Extremely hard.”

Keys added: “It’s a basic refereeing error. And it shouldn’t happen at this level.”

Forest need to sharpen up – but so must the match officials

It’s factually correct that Forest missed lots of chances yesterday but ultimately, this is still a sizeable sucker punch.

The Reds need to ensure they pick up the required amount of points to get themselves out of this situation they find themselves in.

Next up is Brighton before games with Luton, Crystal Palace and Fulham that look absolutely season-defining.

Forest do need to sharpen up and stop feeling sorry for themselves but the PGMOL have to act too.

It’s about time that some of these officials were held accountable for poor decisions and it will be interesting to see where Tierney finds himself next week.
