Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey has slammed referee Paul Tierney after Nottingham Forest lost to Liverpool.
Halsey was speaking live on TalkSPORT earlier today.
So, what has Halsey had to say about the major incident that contributed to Forest dropping a point right at the death? Let’s take a closer look…
What Mark Halsey said about Paul Tierney after Forest disaster
Well, it’s fair to say that Halsey hasn’t held back on his assessment on Tierney after his performance at the weekend.
Forest were beaten 1-0 at the City Ground after Darwin Nunez scored a goal in the ninth minute of added time.
Tierney failed to give the ball back to Forest despite Callum Hudson-Odoi being in possession when play was halted due to an injury.
Halsey thinks that the experienced referee shouldn’t have made an error on such a high-profile stage at the weekend.

He said live on TalkSPORT: “Well, I think as a referee we all make mistakes but when you are wrong in law that’s the cardinal sin, you can’t be wrong in law.
“People say that two minutes went over but the law states that Forest should have had the ball, they could have had another shot and scored themselves.
“Everyone makes mistakes but when you’re wrong in law that’s the cardinal sin. You just cannot switch off, in your mind you just think, right Forest have the ball last. A referee at that level should not be making an error that basic in law.”
Forest right to feel aggrieved but focus must now switch elsewhere
Halsey makes some very good points and in fairness, he’s hit the nail on the head when it comes to this one.
The Reds, however, can’t do anything about this except to use it to create a siege mentality and pull clear of trouble this season.
Tierney will probably get another game this weekend and that might rankle a little bit with the Forest fan base.
However, the good thing for Forest is that the team now has a run of games where points could be obtainable.
The frustration from the weekend is understandable and as Halsey said, it’s an easy decision that should be called incorrectly in the Premier League.
Now, Nuno Espirito Santo must try and use the anger to rally his players and ensure they come out swinging next weekend.
