Garth Crooks has thrown his opinion into the mix after Nottingham Forest were robbed of a point by referee Paul Tierney on Saturday.

The Reds lost 1-0 to Liverpool, with Darwin Nunez scoring in the ninth minute of stoppage time after an error from the referee.

A number of pundits have weighed into the argument – with Micah Richards slamming Forest and their relationship with Mark Clattenburg in the aftermath.

Now, Crooks has had his say – and unsurprisingly, he’s taken another cheap shot at Forest.

What Garth Crooks said about Nottingham Forest on Saturday

Given that Crooks was the man who claimed Ivan Toney was ‘clever’ when he moved the ball to cheat a goal against Forest in January, this isn’t surprising.

The BBC pundit has now taken another swing at Forest and for whatever reason, he really doesn’t appear to like the Reds.

Crooks believes Forest should get their own house in order before they dare to question the performance of the match officials.

He told BBC Sport: “The fact that Forest were incapable of putting the ball into the back of the Liverpool net having created so many chances should be of far greater concern to manager Nuno Espirito Santo and the club’s owner Evangelos Marinakis, than the controversy surrounding the referee Forest are claiming cost them the game.

“As for the controversy surrounding referee Paul Tierney and where the game should have restarted. The referee made a mistake, however once the ball was back in play it was incumbent on Forest to defend their goal regardless of the referee’s decision.

“They had numerous opportunities to clear the danger and failed.

“As for former official and now Nottingham Forest analyst Mark Clattenburg, asking to see the referee after the game was an interesting request. What was he intending to do – compare career mistakes?”

Forest must be hoping another team gets done in similar circumstances

It will be interesting to see how the game’s pundits react should this very same thing happen to one of the big six in the Premier League.

Something tells us that all of a sudden it will be about how poor the officiating is and there will be little mention of the club whinging.

Forest are simply sick and tired of getting raw deals from match officials on a weekly basis.

Since the turn of the year, the Reds have been denied a number of penalties and been on the wrong end of several shocking calls.

It’s hard enough to remain in the Premier League as it is and ultimately, Forest feel hard done by.

For Crooks to not even acknowledge that Forest were right to be frustrated is frankly ridiculous.
