Well, we’ve had the pundits, and now we’ve got the players weighing in on the Nottingham Forest situation from Saturday – with Michail Antonio sharing his thoughts.
The West Ham star has been speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast.
So, what has Antonio said about the situation involving Forest at the weekend? Let’s take a closer look…
Michail Antonio shares what he’d have done on Saturday
Well, it’s interesting but Antonio appears to have some sympathy for Forest and maybe he remembers the reception Forest fans gave him a few weeks ago!
Antonio has watched the footage back and he believes it’s Luis Diaz who earns Liverpool the ball back after kicking the ball back towards the penalty area.
The West Ham man does have some sympathy for Forest though and isn’t sure he’d have been able to stay quite so calm had the incident happened when he was playing.
He told the Footballer’s Football Podcast: “I do rate Diaz, I’m not going to lie. Bro, the pass back got them the ball. He’s kicked it back to his keeper which is genius because it has completely confused the referee.

“The referee is now like ‘It’s there, it’s in the goal it might be Liverpool’s’. Obviously, there are four other officials around the pitch, somebody has got to say that’s Forest’s ball and if I’m on that pitch, I’m going mental!”
Antonio right but Forest have to move on
It’s hard to call an act by Diaz to deceive the referee genius but we get where Antonio is coming from in this instance.
Had Callum Hudson-Odoi not allowed him to do that then perhaps Forest would have been able to get the ball in their favour.
Instead, the rest is history, Darwin Nunez scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time and Forest were left to wonder what might have been.
Antonio is right to say that he would be going mental. Indeed, perhaps some Forest players needed to make more of a fuss about the whole thing.
That said, referees in the Premier League are paid handsomely and it’s not a huge ask to expect Paul Tierney to maintain his concentration deep into stoppage time.
