Lewis McGugan has praised Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams for the way in which he’s conducted himself at the club.

The former midfielder has been speaking on the Forest Focus podcast.

So, what has McGugan had to say about Forest star Williams during his latest interview? Let’s take a closer look…

What Lewis McGugan has said about Forest player Neco Williams

Well, the improvement in Williams has been there for all to see in recent weeks and he’s thriving amid regular first-team football.

The 22-year-old has started the last four Premier League games and he’s started to showcase what he’s capable of.

Forest defender Williams wasn’t the first choice when Nuno Espirito Santo first came to the club but an injury to Gonzalo Montiel has handed him a chance.

McGugan has been very impressed with Williams and he thinks he’s now showing exactly what he’s capable of.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “Every single player has different moments. There will be some players who have been out of the team and then a new manager comes in and they play a vital part in the team.

“It just happens and sometimes and some players get a new lease of life. If you look at Williams, he’s had a spell where he’s been out of the team and you have to be patient and just wait for that chance.

“I think he’s taken that chance with both hands and he’s looked stronger and stronger and the more confident he’s got. If he can keep performing and enjoy a good end to the season I think we’ve got a really good, solid, modern-day right-back.”

Williams can really kick on at the City Ground

Forest’s number seven, Williams, has divided opinion since he signed for the club and last season, he wasn’t always considered a regular in the team.

Serge Aurier was the first option on the right-hand side and Williams played second fiddle for most of the season.

Williams has been linked with a move away from Forest and it’s quite remarkable how he’s knuckled down and proved himself.

Now, he’s been handed another opportunity to stake a claim for his place at Forest and he appears in no mood to let the shirt go.

Who Scored showed on Saturday that he made four tackles and completed four clearances during a dominant performance.

Williams also won the Player of the Month award for February at Forest and now he will hope to really cement his place under Espirito Santo.
