Lewis McGugan has raved about Andrew Omobamidele and believes he’s the ideal player to be partnering with Murillo at Nottingham Forest.

The former Reds midfielder has been speaking with the Forest Focus podcast.

So, what has McGugan said when quizzed about Forest star Omobamidele? Let’s take a closer look…

What Lewis McGugan has said about Forest star Andrew Omobamidele

Well, it’s been a hot topic of discussion this season over who should actually play at the centre of defence.

Ever since Murillo came onto the scene he’s been a mandatory pick – but alongside him there have been issues.

Moussa Niakhate, Willy Boly, Felipe and Omobamidele have all featured with the Brazilian – with the latter getting the nod for Forest against Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has looked largely impressive and it’s fair to say that McGugan has been left impressed with the player.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “Well, I think what they have to look at is day to day, there might be stuff that’s happening that Nuno and his team are aware of. We don’t know.

“Omobamidele hasn’t let anyone down when he’s come into the team, we go back to the Blackpool game and that was his first start and he really had a commanding performance and scored.

“He’s been really good and the partnership with him and Murillo looks really impressive.

“Sometimes with younger players they play without fear, don’t they? You look at them on Saturday and they enjoyed being out there and they enjoyed the battle. He will make mistakes because he’s learning.”

Star youngster can be part of Forest future

The talented youngster was a shock summer signing, with Forest taking Omobamidele on transfer deadline day from Norwich.

He had to wait very patiently for a chance to shine but now – under Nuno Espirito Santo – he’s grasping the chance with both hands.

On Saturday, he was a standout performer, with Forest starlet Omobamidele making eight clearances against Liverpool.

He is still learning his trade as a Premier League central defender but ultimately, he’s going to develop and grow as he plays more games.

McGugan probably has a point. Omobamidele has a no-fear approach to games and that makes him a decent option alongside Murillo and together the pair are striking a strong partnership at Forest.
