USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has suggested that he’s surprised Nottingham Forest aren’t picking Gio Reyna.

The manager has been speaking with The Athletic.

So, what has Berhalter said about Forest and their signing of Reyna in January? Let’s take a closer look…

What Gregg Berhalter said about Forest winger Gio Reyna

Well, it hasn’t been a successful loan spell for Reyna so far, with the 21-year-old featuring for just 39 minutes.

Reyna has checked in at Forest from Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season during January.

However, his arrival has coincided with some really good form for both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga.

That has limited his game time and now Berhalter has a conundrum ahead of the forthcoming international break.

He believes that Forest have got a really good player in Reyna and suggested they should be using him more.

He told The Athletic: “We know Gio is a creative player. We know he’s a great player for the final pass.

“And you know, we have to see what he can do in terms of workload, how long he could last in the field because he hasn’t been playing, but we also see other options as well.”

Reyna looking like a strange addition for Nuno Espirito Santo

As a talented youngster, Reyna looked like a quality addition to the Forest ranks but it’s hard to imagine him getting many chances now.

Now, it would appear that Reyna is already relying on injuries in order to get a chance to shine in the team.

For USMNT head coach Berhalter he’s going to have a conundrum with Reyna not playing matches at the moment.

Forest needed to bolster the options in attack in January and having Reyna on the bench does certainly help that aspect.

The player might be a little concerned at the moment, however, and he must be contemplating whether he made the right call to sign for Forest.
