Kelvin Wilson has explained why he’d bring Willy Boly back into the Nottingham Forest team when the Reds face Luton this weekend.

The former centre-back has been speaking to the Forest Focus podcast.

So, what has Wilson said about Forest defender Boly ahead of this weekend’s must-win clash? Let’s take a closer look…

Kelvin Wilson wants Willy Boly to start for Forest against Luton

Well, it would appear as though Wilson would like to see another change to the defensive unit this weekend when Forest play Luton.

The Reds are in dire straits at the moment and haven’t scored a goal for three games in all competitions.

It’s keeping them out at the other end that is proving tricky too – with Forest conceding the most goals from set pieces in the Premier League this season.

With that in mind, Wilson believes that time is now right for Boly to return to the team as Forest look to find that winning formula once again.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “Yeah I would bring Boly back, I totally agree with what the lads have just said. I’m really shocked at how many times we’ve changed not just the two centre halves but the back four as a whole as well. It’s literally every other week it’s different pairings and partnerships and that’s one position where you want the two central defenders to have a bond together.

“I think for the Luton game Boly has to come back in. It’s not really going to be a football game where you have to play out a lot. He is better than people sometimes believe he is with his feet but he will go and head the ball and I think they’re going to shell the box with crosses.

“They’ll know how many goals Forest concede from set pieces and they’ll load the box with the box with the ball. Boly will go and head it at least.

Boly deserves another chance to shine

The player hasn’t started a game for Forest since a comical sending-off against Bournemouth – with the Reds later receiving an apology from the PGMOL.

Boly was back on the Forest bench at Brighton last weekend after returning from the African Cup of Nations with a minor injury problem.

Wilson knows the ins and outs of being a central defender and importantly there are different situations that require different players.

Boly is known for his prowess in the air and Who Scored shows that this season he has won 44 aerial challenges during his 15 appearances.

That is the most of any Forest player, with the next best central defender Murillo with 24 from 22 outings.

If that isn’t enough to suggest that Boly should start then we don’t know what is, with Forest head coach Espirito Santo now facing a big decision this weekend.
