Nottingham Forest youngster Alex Mighten joined Port Vale on loan and just weeks after signing, Darren Moore arrived as the club’s new manager.
The winger must have felt his heart sink. It was Moore who sent him back from a loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday last season amid a lack of game time.
Now, Mighten must be getting a sense of deja vu at Port Vale, with Moore possibly damaging the potential of the Forest man.
Alex Mighten playing out of position at Port Vale
For Forest, this isn’t great and once again Mighten is enduring a loan spell where he’s either not playing or featuring out of position.
Last night, Mighten was handed a start by Moore but in an unusual twist of fate he was asked to play as a left-sided wing-back.
Now, it can probably be counted on a few fingers how often Mighten has played there and it can’t be good for the player’s development.

Who Scored showcase that Mighten failed to have much of an impact during the 0-0 draw, with the player completing just two dribbles.
Furthermore, he did very little defensively and the player always thrives in games more when he’s used in more advanced positions.
Forest need to cut Mighten loose in the summer
It may sound harsh but after a number of failed loan spells, Mighten really needs to leave in order to further his career.
At 21-years-old, the Forest youngster has outgrown B-Team football and he desperately needs to get some roots put down somewhere.
Forest have a number of wingers in their squad at the moment and even if Forest are relegated, reinforcements in wide areas will be sought.
Moore hasn’t helped things with Mighten’s development and Forest might have to think twice before loaning him players again.
In fairness, the two have crossed paths unexpectedly at Port Vale but at Sheffield Wednesday, it always felt straight for him to take Mighten in the first place.
Forest will do whatever they feel is right with Mighten in the summer but in our view, the club would be wise to offload him permanently.
