Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi has said it was unlucky it did not work out for Steve Cooper this season.

There is a lot of concern at the City Ground as to whether Nuno Espirito Santo can keen Forest afloat this season.

A result at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon could drastically change the mood at the club going into the international break.

Hudson-Odoi hails Steve Cooper

Callum Hudson-Odoi landed at the City Ground in the summer having finally departed Chelsea permanently.

The winger joined under the watch of his former England U17 manager, Cooper, where the pair had won the U17 World Cup together.

But it was not a relationship which was extended for much longer as Cooper was sacked back in December.

Speaking about the 44-year-old, Hudson-Odoi has claimed he thought it was unlucky that Cooper’s time at Forest did not work out for him this season.

He said: “I’d always had a good relationship with Coops. He’s an amazing manager, an amazing guy and he’s unfortunate it didn’t work out.”

Hudson-Odoi record this season

Under Cooper earlier in the season, Hudson-Odoi was able to return one goal and one assist in his eight appearances.

Since his departure and Espirito Santo’s appointment, the 23-year-old has offered three goals and two assists in 16 games.

The winger went on a recent run of three games last month where he scored in consecutive games.

However, he has been unable to score in his previous three outings for Forest.

He did not start that game against Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend, but as Forest search for goals, perhaps he will be thrown back into the XI.

There is an awful lot on the line for Forest in the game on Saturday against Luton Town and playing Hudson-Odoi on the back of his form last month could provide them with the difference.
