Glenn Murray shocked by what he saw from Nottingham Forest player in 2-2 draw today

Glenn Murray could not believe what he saw from one Nottingham Forest player in today’s 2-2 draw against Wolves.

A goal from Danilo looked likely to secure a 2-1 win for Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side after Morgan Gibbs-White cancelled out Matheus Cunha’s opener.

However, some sloppy depending saw the Brazilian net a second for Wolves in the 62nd minute – just five minutes after Nottingham Forest went ahead.

During that 62nd minute scramble in the penalty box, Glenn Murray saw something that shocked him…

Glenn Murray critical of Nottingham Forest No.26 Matz Sels

Well, the man who made 16 appearances for Nottingham Forest could not believe how poorly Matz Sels dealt with the situation leading up to Cunha’s equaliser.

The Belgium international – signed from Strasbourg in a £5m deal in January – failed to hold the ball after a header from Max Kilman sparked panic inside the area.

Sels could be seen punching the ball down, right into the danger zone rather than trying to get any height on his effort, which allowed Cunha to prod home and make it 2-2.

After seeing the Belgian’s attempted goalkeeping, Murray said while speaking live on Optus Sport: “What is he doing? He’s got it in his finger tips, he flaps at the ball, it’s a weak punch. Nottingham Forest, masters of their own downfall.”

It was a very poor piece of goalkeeping from the 32-year-old, on a day where Nottingham Forest arguably performed well enough to win all three points.

Nuno’s side had 18 shots – compared to just 11 from Wolves – while also winning ten corners on an afternoon where the Reds certainly had more control of the match.

Unfortunately, key moments and some poor decision making cost Nottingham Forest, with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s brainless cross before Cunha’s goal just one example of that sloppiness.

Nuno needs a response

While it was important not to lose today’s clash against Wolves, it does feel like three points were there to be taken for the Reds.

Nevertheless, Nottingham Forest must put the 2-2 draw behind them and focus on what is a truly massive clash against Everton next week at Goodison Park.

That match will not be for the faint hearted Nottingham Forest supporters, so it would help to see a bit more efficiency from those in attack – and some more decisiveness from Sels in between the sticks.

Hopefully, Nuno’s men do not look back on today’s 2-2 draw with regret come May.
