Gary Lineker left in ‘hysterics’ after story involving Martin Keown and Nuno on Match of the Day

Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Wolves on Saturday in the Premier League and Gary Lineker has now told an amusing story from behind the scenes on Match of the Day.

The Reds had to come from behind after Matheus Cunha put Wolves into the lead. Morgan Gibbs-White and Danilo turned things around, with Forest going in front with around half an hour remaining.

However, Wolves weren’t to be denied – and Forest always concede from a set piece at some point. It became 22 goals scored from dead-ball situations when Cunha got his second of the afternoon.

Martin Keown was in place for Match of the Day this week. The pundit found time to praise Nuno Espirito Santo for his style of play but Lineker has now shared an amusing story from behind the scenes.

Gary Lineker shares hilarious story about Martin Keown and Forest

Well, this does sound like an amusing situation. Keown often appears on Match of the Day but it turns out that the former Arsenal title-winner gets a little muddled up about pronunciations.

On Saturday, it was Keown who delivered the long – and pretty insightful – analysis on the Forest clash with Wolves at the City Ground.

Lineker has explained however that the name of Forest head coach Espirito Santo was causing him some problems ahead of his cue.

He told The Rest is Football Podcast: “Martin is wonderful and we had a laugh yesterday but he does get a little bit nervous over his pronunciation of certain things.

“He does tend to ask you quite a lot of times how you say everyone’s name. Just before his analysis of Forest, he’s turned to Micah and said, ‘It’s Nuno, isn’t it, Nu-no?’, to which Micah has confirmed.

“Martin was doing his analysis and Micah and I couldn’t look at each other. We were both in hysterics and thankfully it was a long and great piece of analysis.”

Forest will hope Nuno is the name on everyone’s lips in May

There are now five games of this asterix-dominated Premier League campaign left to play this season – and the end can’t come soon enough in fairness.

Forest have been deducted four points, whilst Everton have lost eight in total across the course of the campaign.

The Reds sit just a point above Luton Town in the battle for the drop and the Hatters do have three of their remaining five games at home.

Espirito Santo will only truly be able to convince some Steve Cooper-backing Forest supporters that he’s the man for the job if the team stays in the division.

Evangelos Marinakis made the unpopular call in December to part with Cooper and so far consistency has remained elusive.

There is still all to play for though and this story from Lineker does at least provide some humour for Forest fans to get their heads around.

Hopefully, Espirito Santo will remain as a Premier League manager next season with Forest avoiding the drop to the Championship.
