‘It’s close’… 21-year-old thinks he’s going to score his first goal for Nottingham Forest very soon

One Nottingham Forest player thinks he’s extremely close to opening his account for the club following a number of near misses.

The Reds go to Everton at the weekend in a game that looks mouthwatering to say the very least.

Forest claimed a draw at home to Wolves last weekend, whilst the Toffees were battered 6-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

This season the goals have been shared around somewhat at Forest – with Taiwo Awoniyi spending a lot of the season out injured.

Chris Wood has scored 12, with Anthony Elanga scoring five and Morgan Gibbs-White scoring six during 2023/24.

Awoniyi himself has scored six times but it remains to be seen right now whether or not he will feature again this season.

Now, another player in the Forest ranks thinks he’s very close to grabbing his first goal – and it’s not been through a lack of trying.

Murillo thinks he’s close to first Nottingham Forest goal

The central defender has been a breath of fresh air since he came to the football club and he’s going to the very top.

Forest already value Murillo at the £50 million mark and it looks likely that he could be sold in the summer.

However, he has his sights on etching his name onto a score sheet before he does leave, however, after several near misses.

There was a mazy run and shot at Palace that Sam Johnstone saved followed by two ambitious free kicks against Luton and Tottenham.

Now, the 21-year-old has his sights set on hitting the net for Forest before the season is out.

He told BBC Sport: “It’s crazy we know football is very unpredictable.

“The run against Crystal Palace is something I’m used to doing, I’ve been doing it since the youth teams. I was used to it, I saw the opportunity and went for it.

The important thing is to help the team, so I’m anxiously awaiting my first goal as a professional. I believe it’s close!”

Murillo rise has been remarkable

It’s quite unthinkable that this time last year Murillo had barely played any men’s football – let alone in a top European league.

Now at such a tender age, he’s been ever-present in the Premier League since October and is growing as a defender.

Garry Birtles mentioned that aerial prowess is a weakness for Murillo but that should come with more experience.

Several top Premier League clubs clearly aren’t fussed over his ability in the air and it looks highly unlikely that he will be at Forest next season.

Based on the near misses he’s had so far this season if Murillo does find the net for Forest, it’s unlikely to be a tap-in!
