‘VAR is a Luton fan’… Nottingham Forest release very strong statement after Everton defeat at Goodison Park

Nottingham Forest have just released a statement in the aftermath of a 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

The Reds are teetering close to the edge. This game was decided by some fine margins but Forest do have to be better.

Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil gave Everton some daylight in their own quest to avoid being relegated from the Premier League.

Forest never really got going throughout the clash and after a reasonably bright start, Everton started to gain a foothold.

The first goal could perhaps have been saved by Matz Sels but in fairness, he did see the ball pretty late.

The game could – and should – have been decided in a different way had the team of officials on the day done their jobs properly.

Now, Forest have reacted in a frankly robust way – and it’s fair to say that the football club is far from happy.

Nottingham Forest react after defeat to Everton

Well, Forest have outdone themselves this time and in our view, this is badly needed from Premier League clubs.

It’s time that the PGMOL had some backbone and started coming out to justify these frankly ridiculous decisions.

Shortly after today’s result, the Reds have posted on X their response – and have taken aim with the VAR who was Stuart Attwell.

The post said: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times.

“NFFC will now consider its options.”

Forest have to be careful with a statement of this nature

We appreciate the sentiment from this post but we’re also not sure what the club hopes to achieve from it.

Hiring Mark Clattenburg as a referee analyst clearly hasn’t helped and this sort of thing is likely to aid either.

Forest have to take care of business on the pitch themselves and in truth, they were pretty poor during today’s game.

Still, Attwell was nothing short of a disgrace and how he could get four penalty calls so badly wrong is a mystery.

Forest will now be considering their next actions and this situation promises to be an intriguing topic of conversation.
