A bizarre interview has now emerged which suggests a player Nottingham Forest allegedly released has not actually left the City Ground.
The likes of Wayne Hennessey, Cheikhou Kouyate, Felipe, Harry Arter, Scott McKenna and Loic Mbe Soh have already been let go by the Garibaldi – although there is a player still seemingly hanging around who Nottingham Forest fans thought they had waved goodbye to.
So, what is the situation at the City Ground? Let’s take a look…
Jonjo Shelvey appears to admit he still plays for Nottingham Forest
Firstly, let’s provide some context.
Nottingham Forest appeared to have initially loaned Jonjo Shelvey out to Caykur Rizespor back in September – according to the official announcement which emerged from the City Ground.
However, the Guardian examined the deal, and revealed that Nottingham Forest had actually terminated the England international’s contract to ensure he could move to Turkey on a free transfer – as the Reds had already exceeded the amount of players who can be loaned out (seven).

Now – though – Shelvey has sat down for an interview with the Karadeniz Gazete to reveal that he wants to stay in the Turkish Super Lig, and hopes Nottingham Forest can come to an agreement with Caykur Rizespor.
The £80,000-a-week man said: “My heart is in favour of staying here, but this does not happen by my will. The two clubs need to reach an agreement. There is no reason why there cannot be a deal. Hopefully, good news will come in the coming days.”
The Karadeniz Gazete add that Shelvey has 12 months remaining on his contract at Nottingham Forest.
Very odd
Whether this means Nottingham Forest could now be punished for exceeding loan limits last season or not remains to be seen – although nobody can deny this is a very strange development.
It also means Evangelos Marinakis has presumably been paying Shelvey a portion of his wages since September, which is hardly ideal when Nottingham Forest are not currently in a position to be wasting money.

Hopefully, Caykur Rizespor and Nottingham Forest can reach an agreement over the 32-year-old’s future which results in the Garibaldi receiving a fee.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – if an agreement is not reached, it sounds like Shelvey will be returning to the City Ground this summer.
