Nottingham Forest are now willing to sell a player after he made just 17 appearances for the Reds.

As you may have heard, the Garibaldi need to raise £20m before June 30th in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules – meaning a number of fringe players such as Joe Worrall and Matt Turner could be sold.

Now – however – it is said that Nottingham Forest are willing to offload someone who has barely had a chance to assert himself at the City Ground

Nottingham Forest willing to sell Ibrahim Sangare

A story from the Mirror now states that Nottingham Forest are open to selling Ibrahim Sangare.

The Ivory Coast international arrived from PSV Eindhoven in a headline £30m move back in September 2023 – after making a name for himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe with the Dutch outfit.

However, Sangare struggled in his debut campaign at Nottingham Forest, making only 17 appearances in what was a turbulent campaign.

The Ivorian not only watched the man who signed him – Steve Cooper – receive his P45 before Christmas, but the Nottingham Forest No.6 also suffered a string of injuries which disrupted his progress, before the Africa Cup of Nations then caused more disturbance to his career at the City Ground.

By the time Sangare returned from AFCON, Nuno Espirito Santo had already worked closely with a number of other players, and the 26-year-old struggled to break into the Portuguese tactician’s XI amid a tense relegation battle.

The Mirror believe Nottingham Forest are highly unlikely to receive anything close to the £30m spent on the man from Abidjan this summer if a buyer does come forward.

Ivory Coast international should be kept

In our view, there is little point in selling Sangare.

As the Mirror state, Nottingham Forest are unlikely to get their £30m back after a difficult debut campaign in English football, so unless the midfielder himself pushes to leave, it would make more sense to give him another season to showcase his talents.

With a full pre-season under his belt and no AFCON next season, Sangare has a good chance of rediscovering his best form, which could end up taking his value beyond the £30m Nottingham Forest paid, especially as he is still just 26 years of age.

Hopefully, the Reds stick with Sangare.
