Two EFL clubs want to sign £10m Nottingham Forest player who impressed Ryan Yates

Nottingham Forest have plenty of business to do this summer with players to be added to the ranks and others to be moved on to other clubs.

The Reds have a bloated squad and it’s no secret that Nuno Espirito Santo prefers to work with a smaller clutch of players.

Forest are close to signing Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson for around £35 million, with a medical pencilled in for today.

Now, some news has emerged regarding a current Forest player and it would seem as though interest in him is being stepped up.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien now wanted by two clubs

It’s not really happened for O’Brien at Forest since his £10 million transfer from Huddersfield shortly after the Play-Off Final in 2022.

O’Brien only made 14 appearances for the Reds and was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough for the 2023/24 campaign.

Now, Forest would like to get rid of O’Brien on a permanent basis, although that’s proving tricky.

According to The Sun, Norwich and Luton are both keen on signing O’Brien from Forest – but both only fancy him on loan.

O’Brien needs to continue playing football and his chances of doing that at Forest next season feel slim.

Luton were relegated last season from the Premier League, whilst Norwich will be hoping to battle for promotion once again.

O’Brien would be one of the best midfielders in the Championship and at 25-years-old, he still has plenty left to offer.

Forest signed O’Brien when Ryan Yates was asked by Steve Cooper which midfielder in the Championship had impressed him the most during the promotion-winning season.

O’Brien is right player for Forest at the wrong time

In an ideal world, O’Brien would have starred during his maiden campaign playing in the top flight but injury and illness robbed him of that chance.

Forest added Danilo to their ranks in January 2023 and ultimately, Cooper chose to leave O’Brien out of his 25-man squad.

Now, it feels like the ex-Huddersfield Town performer won’t get a chance to shine under Espirito Santo either.

The midfield ranks at Forest are well-stocked right now and O’Brien would be fifth choice at very best.

As a result, it’s imperative that the club get him off of their wage bill and if they can let him go permanently that would be most ideal.

O’Brien looked a smart signing when Forest added him to their ranks but sadly he’s not quite done it in the Premier League.

The player will be desperate to play football and hopefully, a resolution can be sought that suits all parties in the coming weeks.
