Nottingham Forest made the surprise move to allow Brandon Aguilera to leave the City Ground permanently yesterday.
The Costa Rica international has moved to the Evangelos Marinakis-owned club Rio Ave in Portugal to continue his career.
It’s a move that has come a little bit out of the blue, with Aguilera coming close to breaking into Nuno Espirito Santo’s team last season.
The 21-year-old made his Premier League debut coming on against Brentford and was then loaned out to Bristol Rovers for the second half of the season.
He scored twice in 12 appearances during his time with the League One outfit and gave a really good account of himself.
Now, his career has taken him to Portugal and after helping Costa Rica at the Copa America he will head to his new club for pre-season.
Forest fans look to have seen Aguilera for the last time in the Garibaldi and there have been some very adamant reactions.

Nottingham Forest fans all say the same thing about Brandon Aguilera exit
It’s fair to say that this one hasn’t gone down too well with a number of Forest fans.
Aguilera has been earning his stripes in England and right when it seems he could become a good player, Forest have decided to sell him.
Many have taken to X after this announcement to express their disappointment at this news and many hoped Aguilera would stay.
Another fan was equally disappointed, saying: “Another talented youngster not given a fair go. Hopefully, we received a sum to reflect his potential.”
Another Forest supporter claimed he was angry at the decision. They posted: “Very disappointed and disgusted he was never given time or chances.”
Someone else claimed that he couldn’t get his head around the decision, claiming:
Forest Guy on X said: “Very sorry to see Brandon Aguilera leave #NFFC. He always looked assured on the ball and wanted to make things happen. Our loss.”
Finally, another fan posted: “Genuine shame this – why???”
Forest might have a masterplan with Aguilera
It’s hard to disagree with the fans on social media speaking about their disappointment that the player has been allowed to leave.
However, the fact he’s gone to a club part of Marinakis’ portfolio might be telling.
Letting Aguilera leave permanently will earn Forest a sum for his services and there is possibly a buy-back clause inserted in the deal.
Therefore, if Aguilera does well, perhaps the intention is to send him back to Forest for another small fee in the future.
Ultimately, the player’s chances were going to be restricted at Forest and only time will tell whether the club will regret this decision.
