‘Fantastic’ 15-goal striker shares whether he’d be willing to sign for Nottingham Forest

Chuba Akpom has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest this summer as the Reds look to get some more firepower.

The Reds need to ensure the squad is well-stocked and some competition for Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi is a must.

It was announced earlier today that Awoniyi won’t be making the trip to Spain with Forest as he attends to a personal issue at home.

Even if Awoniyi and Wood are fit and firing, Forest could still welcome another striker into the squad, with Akpom one of the names linked with the City Ground.

Following the latest reports, Akpom has been quizzed on his future and he’s delivered some comments suggesting he might be tempted to leave Ajax.

The Reds have had Akpom before when he was a teenager but he failed to find the net in seven appearances with the club.

Now, it’s claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo wants to land the player that the club tried – and failed – to sign in January.

Akpom, it would seem, would be willing to leave Ajax this summer and he’s outlined what it would take for him to look for a different club.

He told FC Update: “I want to be part of a team that needs me. I don’t think I can sit on the bench as a second striker for another year. If I get more involved in the games this year, then I’d like to stay here. If that’s not the case, then it might be time to look further. We’ll see.”

The talisman earned his move to Ajax after starring with Middlesbrough where Michael Carrick called Akpom ‘fantastic’.

Akpom would only be backup at Forest

It’s hard to imagine Akpom would come in at Forest and instantly command regular football given he’s not played regularly in the Premier League before.

Akpom did score 15 goals in all competitions last season despite starting just nine games and that is a decent return for a centre-forward.

However, with Wood and Awoniyi both capable of scoring goals in the Premier League, any striker who comes to the club will have work to do.

At 28-years-old Akpom doesn’t feel like a signing that would leave the fan base buzzing exactly.

However, the fact that Forest are keen again probably suggests that Espirito Santo likes him and perhaps he would be capable of getting a tune out of him in the Premier League.
