Nottingham Forest are set to lock horns with Aston Villa to complete the signing of a player who is currently playing at the Under-19 European Championships.

The Reds are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to sign new players this summer. So far five have been added with more set to follow.

Forest are going to prioritise quality over quantity this summer and that has shown in their recruitment thus far.

Nikola Milenkovic has signed from Fiorentina, Elliot Anderson has joined from Newcastle and Carlos Miguel has swapped Corinthians for Forest.

Eric da Silva Moreira has joined from St Pauli and Marko Stamenic has signed but then been loaned straight out to Olympiacos.

Now, another youngster looks to be on the radar of the City Ground-based club.

Nottingham Forest want Berkay Yilmaz

According to On the Minute, Forest are going to do battle with Villa to sign the Turkey under-19 star this summer.

Yilmaz plays for Freiburg in the Bundesliga and is now attracting interest from across Europe.

Right now, he’s with the under-19s as Turkey try to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

After losing 2-1 to France and drawing 1-1 with Spain, Yilmaz and his teammates do have a bit of a fight on their hands.

The Turkish performer typically operates as a left-back and that’s an area of the pitch that Forest could look to strengthen.

Ola Aina was the primary option in that position last season, with Harry Toffolo and Omar Richards also working hard for a spot.

Yilmaz could prove useful Forest signing

With Aston Villa in the Champions League next season, this one might not be easy for Forest to get over the line.

However, Yilmaz does look like a player with the future in mind and last season he made 18 appearances for the Freiburg under-19s.

He claimed five assists at that level of football but hasn’t yet made a senior appearance during his professional career.

Yilmaz looks like a bright prospect for the future and ultimately it’s no surprise that Forest are monitoring the situation.

The club are wanting to add upgrades to their current stars but that shouldn’t come at the expense of planning for the future.

Yilmaz would be a signing with the future in mind and it will be fascinating to see if follow this interest through from here.
