Nottingham Forest fans may have noticed the absence of the Kaiyun Sports logo in the recent friendly against Sunderland.

Omar Richards scored a fantastic goal for the Garibaldi after Jack Clarke opened the scoring from the spot – although there was no sponsor on the front of Nottingham Forest‘s shirt.

So, why was the Kaiyun Sports logo nowhere to be seen? Let’s take a look…

Why Nottingham Forest could not wear Kaiyun Sports logo vs Sunderland

A story from The Athletic now shares why Nottingham Forest did not wear the Kaiyun Sports logo against Sunderland.

It is said that Nottingham Forest have been warned about the sponsor – as have Crystal Palace – because it does not comply with the new code of conduct regarding gambling sponsorship, which the Premier League, the Football Association, the English Football League and the Women’s Super League all announced on Wednesday.

Kaiyun Sports are not licensed to trade in the United Kingdom, so Nottingham Forest have been warned they would be breaking the law if the website ends up becoming available to gamblers in Britain.

The Athletic add that Nottingham Forest are comfortable about their association with Kaiyun Sports, as the betting site is unavailable in the UK – so the Reds believe they are not promoting unlicensed gambling to British people.

Nottingham Forest have also spoken to the Gambling Commission and are satisfied with the outcome of talks.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are still allowed to wear the Kaiyun Sports logo throughout the 2024/25 campaign, but were not able to display it against Sunderland, as the friendly was held in Spain – where there are different regulations about gambling advertisements.

Reds will need a new sponsor soon anyway

Regardless of the current situation involving Kaiyun Sports, Evangelos Marinakis will need to find a new sponsor for Nottingham Forest soon anyway.

From the start of the 2026/27 campaign, gambling sponsorships of any kind – whether it be a mere sleeve sponsor, or a huge logo on the front of shirts – will be banned as the Premier League take action.

Hopefully, that decision does not hit Nottingham Forest hard financially in any way, after the financial issues of last season which caused four points to be deducted.
