EFL club agree fee with Nottingham Forest for long-standing player, medical now booked

Nottingham Forest club captain Joe Worrall is edging closer to an exit from the City Ground ahead of the transfer window closing.

The Reds skipper has risen through the youth ranks and captained Forest at Wembley as Premier League football was secured for the first time in 23 years.

His time in the Premier League has been somewhat hit-and-miss though and last season he made just seven appearances in the top flight for the Reds.

Worrall seemingly fell out with Steve Cooper in November and that saw him slide down the pecking order and join Besiktas in January.

The Turkish outfit did hold an option to purchase Worrall but despite him winning the Turkish Cup with the Istanbul club, they chose not to buy him.

Now, a move is on the cards, however, and it feels like a positive one for the player.

Burnley agree deal with Forest for Joe Worrall

This comes from Football Insider and it’s believed that an undisclosed fee has now been reached between the Clarets and Forest.

Burnley hope to have Worrall registered in time to face Sunderland at the weekend and have moved quickly to get this one sorted.

Forest are keen to recoup some funds for a number of surplus players – with Worrall being one of them.

The captain has made 226 appearances for the Reds and now Forest will hope to recoup a pretty decent fee for the central defender.

It’s claimed in the piece that a medical has been booked for the player and the move will take place in the coming days.

Forest captain Worrall does deserve some credit

Falling out with Cooper after failing to make the starting eleven shouldn’t have been a situation that happened but Worrall has still done a lot of good at Forest.

Ultimately, the Premier League has just proved a bridge too far for the player and he’s failed to really establish himself as a quality top-flight defender.

The next challenge is important for Worrall. At 27, he is fast approaching his prime and Burnley should give him a strong platform to reach the Premier League again.

Worrall ultimately captained the club to promotion and that shouldn’t be forgotten.

He’s served the club well during his many years as a player on Trentside and hopefully he can settle again at Burnley and play plenty of games.
