Nottingham Forest have completed the loan signing of Alex Moreno who has joined the club from Aston Villa on a season-long loan.

The Reds have completed the signing to bolster their left-back ranks following an injury to Ola Aina sustained in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the weekend.

Moreno finally arrives at the City Ground having almost signed for the club in 2022 shortly after the Reds won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The 31-year-old comes with 18 months experience of playing in the Premier League and he should be capable of slotting straight in and making an immediate impact.

Matty Cash reacts as Nottingham Forest sign Alex Moreno

It’s perhaps intriguing that Moreno has now finally decided to join Forest years after rejecting the newly-promoted team’s advances.

With Villa now possessing Lucas Digne and summer signing Ian Maatsen, football at Villa Park would have been in short supply.

Perhaps Moreno has decided to join Forest following a conversation with Cash – who came through the academy ranks at the City Ground before joining Villa for £16 million.

He’s become one of the Premier League’s top right-backs since he departed the Reds – and is also a Poland international.

After Forest announced the signing of Moreno, he took to Instagram to post a welcome message to the club’s fan base.

It read: “Hello Forest fans! This year I will be with you and I will do my best to achieve great goals! Happy to be here.”

After his post, the first reply came from none other than Cash – and he believes the full-back has made a brilliant choice.

He posted: All the best bro! What a club!”

Cash was converted to a right-back by Sabri Lamouchi and he didn’t disappoint, helping Forest to almost reach the play-offs during the 2019/20 campaign.

Moreno could quickly become a fan favourite just like Cash

This looks and feels like a brilliant signing made by Forest.

Nothing against Aina – who has been quality since signing on a free – but when he plays the defensive unit is somewhat unbalanced.

Moreno is naturally left-footed and he’s showcased at Villa that he’s capable of gliding up and down the left-hand side to help teams get into attacking areas.

At 31, the player might not be a long-term option but he’s vastly experienced and if he brings the form he’s shown at Villa to Forest, he should be capable of becoming a fan favourite.

Cash knows all about that and now hopefully, Moreno can follow suit and become the latest cult hero on Trentside.
