Gary Lineker made a prediction about Nottingham Forest before a ball was kicked this season that didn’t excactly down well among the fan base.
Lineker is one of the country’s best broadcasters and his media career has largely been as impressive as his playing career.
Naturally, he’s entitled to an opinion and he claimed that Forest would go down this season after flirting with the drop for two season.
The Reds have made a strong start though, picking up four points with a draw against Bournemouth and a victory over Southampton.
After the win at the weekend, Lineker has discussed his pre-season verdict on the club with Alan Shearer.

Gary Lineker makes Nottingham Forest claim after just two games
The season is in the very early stages at the moment but Lineker is already in the mood to be changing his mind.
Shearer doesn’t agree with Lineker that Forest will go down and he doesn’t expect the club to be anywhere near the relegation zone.
He told the Rest is Football podcast: “Nottingham Forest will be more than okay because they’ve got far too many good players to be in trouble.”
Lineker has already concended that he might have to revise his prediction already.
He continued: “I’m thinking whether I want to retract my statement that they might go down. I only said that because I was trying to think of a team other than Leicester but there we go.”
Forest still have work to do in order to avoid struggle
It’s four points but that has to be viewed as par for the course at the start of the campaign – and it probably should be six.
Bournemouth scored a late goal to rob Forest of two points and thankfuly the team did manage to shake that off quickly and win on Saturday.
It does feel as though there are going to be three teams worse than Forest this season. However, a lot can happen between now and the end of the transfer window that could impact things.
Forest will hopefully have learnt some lessons from last season. The club conceded more set-piece goals than anyone else and threw away over 20 points from winning positions.
Hopefully, Shearer is right and Forest will be fine. Still, the team needs to stay grounded, keep working hard and hopefully then Forest will continue to reap the rewards.
