Nottingham Forest have several players who require minutes in the team with the 2024/24 campaign two games old.

The Reds enjoyed a settled and more positive pre-season this year compared to the basket-case of an off-season campaign 12 months ago.

Forest now have a settled squad and Nuno Espirito Santo will be keen to build on four points from two games when the Reds face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup tonight.

A number of players could get a chance to play tonight and one of them has now received some praise from a former England international.

What Ben Foster has said about Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi

The Nigerian performer is yet to start a Premier League game this term with Chris Wood getting the nod so far during the campaign.

He may get the nod to play this evening as he looks to build up his fitness and get back towards the goal trail.

Foster is a huge fan of Awoniyi and after stating how impressed he was with the team at Southampton, he’s had some special praise for the 27-year-old.

He told the Cycling GK podcast: “They’ve got Awoniyi too. Honestly, I think he’s a threat. He’s a problem, he really is.”

Awoniyi facing crunch time at Forest

This could be a pivotal season for Awoniyi and ultimately he has a fight on his hands to get into the team this season.

A Nigerian international, the player is desperate to prove his fitness after two injury-stricken seasons at the City Ground.

He’s still scored some very important goals, however, and it’s easy to see why the club haven’t got rid of him just yet.

A fully fit and firing Awoniyi is a problem for defenders – as Foster says – and the challenge for Forest is to manage his game time but help him get back to his best.

If he doesn’t do that this season, there might be little way back for him at Forest, especially if the club goes out and signs another forward player before Friday.
