Nottingham Forest show late interest in ‘terrific’ midfielder eyed by Manchester United

Nottingham Forest want a striker before the transfer deadline on Friday but it would appear other areas are in need of strengthening too.

The Reds have added nine signings to the squad thus far with two of them – Marko Stamenic and David Carmo – joining Olympiacos on loan.

Forest were given a cruel blow on the opening day of the season when Danilo broke his ankle following an awkward fall after just 10 minutes.

That has seen a number of midfield players linked to the club and now a very reputable source has claimed that Forest are eying up another season.

Tim Vickery confirms Nottingham Forest interest in Andre

This could prove to be a ridiculously good signing if Forest can get something sorted late in the day prior to the deadline.

According to Vickery, Forest are holding an internet in Fluminense star Andre with other clubs watching him throughout the summer.

The South American football expert told Sky Sports News: “He was Plan B for Manchester United if they didn’t land Manuel Ugarte.

“There could be some late interest here from Nottingham Forest who have obviously lost Danilo to that serious injury.

“Andre is a terrific central midfielder – recalled by Brazil – and may well start next month in World Cup qualification for them.”

Andre could be a game-changing signing for Forest

This would be an exceptional signing and the fact that Manchester United wanted him and Liverpool have been interested speaks volumes.

At one point this summer it looked as though he might be set for Fulham but they now look to be out of the race.

Wolves are also keen but their transfer budget is hard considering big for this particular window.

That could leave Forest with a clear run at a player who has recently broken into the Brazil squad and made five appearances for the national team.

Andre, 23, fits the profile of what Forest have been looking for this summer and he would ensure that the squad is well-stocked in midfield.

His arrival might have to see one player from the engine room leave but it’s fair to say that Andre would represent an upgrade on some of the current crop.

Convincing him to sign at this late stage might prove tricky but if Vickery is to be believed, Forest might be about to make a late move to try and get him over the line.
