Nottingham Forest were active on transfer deadline day even if the club only completed two deals.

The Reds ended up with 11 new players, two of which – Marko Stamenic and David Carmo – joined Olympiacos straight away.

Forest tried desperately to sign a striker, with Santiago Gimenez at the top of the wishlist, with Eddie Nketiah and Omar Marmoush also in the club’s sights.

A striker wasn’t signed in the end, however, with Morato and James Ward-Prowse the only two new additions on deadline day.

Nuno Espirito Santo told Evangelos Marinakis that he didn’t feel Forest needed a striker desperately, with Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi now the two choices in attack.

Newcastle made a late play to try and sign Anthony Elanga but the offer was rejected by Forest.

Although the Magpies did offer Miguel Almiron to Forest as part of the deal, the Reds also lined up another player in the event of Elanga leaving.

Nottingham Forest agreed terms with Ernest Nuamah on deadline day

According to The Athletic, the Reds lined up a deal for the Ghana international on deadline day but placed it on standby.

Elanga was linked with Newcastle and Forest weren’t sure whether or not the Magpies would make an offer that simply couldn’t be refused.

Forest had agreed personal terms with Nuamah and he was ready to make the move to the City Ground if he received the green light.

However, that never came, with Newcastle choosing not to keep trying to Elanga and Evangelos Marinakis standing firm in the Forest corner.

Nuamah is a burgeoning talent at Lyon and he will now remain there until January at the very earliest it would seem.

The 20-year-old has been praised in the past and Laurent Blanc called him ‘explosive’ when he was first bursting onto the scene.

Nuamah should remain on the list at Forest

Although Forest chose not to sign Nuamah during the latest transfer window, it’s clear the club likes him as a player.

They lined up a deal for him in the event of Elanga going and now he will likely remain on the club’s shortlist.

Last season, he scored seven goals and claimed three assists during spells with Lyon and on loan with Nordsjaelland.

He usually plays on the right flank and despite his tender years, he’s already scoring three goals in 12 games for the Ghana national team.

Forest didn’t give Nuamah the green light to move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window but this could be one for Forest to consider further down the line.
