Nottingham Forest star Neco Williams is heading off to play for Wales during the first international break of the 2024/25 campaign.

The right-back has played all three of the Premier League games so far this season and is a popular member of the Forest squad.

Williams is still very much a work-in-progress sort of player and there is hope that the man signed from Liverpool for £17 million can keep improving.

The 22-year-old was signed as one of 23 new recruits shortly after Forest had won promotion back to the Premier League – and he’s made 72 appearances for the Reds.

It’s been a decent start to the campaign for Forest as Nuno Espirito Santo has overseen an unbeaten three games; winning once and claiming two draws on home soil.

Forest have a number of players jetting off on international duty over the next fortnight and it highlights just how much quality the Reds have within the squad these days.

Neco Williams shares who he thinks is the best player at Nottingham Forest

One player who everyone associated with Nottingham Forest is looking forward to seeing in action for his country in the next two weeks is Morgan Gibbs-White.

The 24-year-old has been called into the England senior squad for the first time with former under-21 boss Lee Carsley now the interim manager.

Williams has shared what he thinks about Gibbs-White following his call-up and he thinks a chance in the England squad has been long overdue.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “I’m surprised it’s taken this long. He’s probably been out best player since he joined.

“He’s so important for us, he creates stuff, he gets goals and assists, so it was only a matter of time before he got the call. Better late than never I suppose.

“At the moment it’s going on how you are doing for your club. That’s what it seems players are being picked on – not just for their names.

“Morgan has been our best player, he’s consistent and he’s getting goals and assists. Yes, it will be hard to shift him (once he gets in) – hopefully, he can put a good stamp on it when he gets there.”

What Forest players did when they found out about Gibbs-White being in England squad

The Forest number 10 found out about his call-up last week when Carsley announced his squad for games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Gibbs-White has been rewarded for his fine form last season, whilst he also scored the game’s only goal against Southampton last weekend.

The Forest squad were buzzing for Gibbs-White when he found out about the decision to include him in the latest squad.

Williams explained: “We’re all buzzing for him. We could see how much it meant to him when he got the call-up and we came into training. We’re all so happy for him and hopefully, he does well.

“Obviously, I think he knew just before the announcement so there were little whispers going around. The squad announcement was at two o’clock and we were training at 1.30 that day, so nobody knew until we came back.

“We have televisions in the changing rooms and we saw it on the teles and everyone was just screaming and shouting. It was a good moment and we were all so happy for him.”

Gibbs-White will hope that he now gets the chance to pull on the Three Lions jersey during the two Nations League games and really prove himself on the international stage.

Everyone at Forest will be wishing him well and the most important thing will be that he returns fit and healthy ready to continue producing the goods at club level.
