Premier League rivals Leicester City have been successful in their appeal against an alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
The Foxes will avoid a points deduction this season after an independent panel ruled that there was no jurisdiction for the case to be heard.
Rival clubs, including Nottingham Forest, are said to be shocked by the outcome while the Premier League released a statement in which they said they were “surprised and disappointed”.
Forest were one of the clubs handed a points deduction in the 2023/2024 campaign alongside Everton for breaching PSR rules.
Under the rules, clubs are permitted to make a loss of £105m over three years.

Nottingham Forest fans are all saying the same thing about Leicester’s points appeal
News of Leicester’s success has sent a ripple through the rest of English football.
On the one hand, people are seemingly happy that a club has exploited a loophole and made a mockery of the league’s PSR rules but for Forest fans, there is a feeling in the air that they have been hard done by.
Writing on X, one supporter said: “I’m sure there are far more intricacies than I’m aware of, but why does a year of Championship football get Leicester out of charges but Forests 2 years contributes to a PSR charge and 4 points deducted…”
A second commented: “Unbelievable. How Forest couldn’t use the fact that two of the three years were at championship level as mitigation yet Leicester who were in the prem for all 3 years can get away with it?!”
Another added: “Peeved, baffled, shocked, appalled. One rule for one, one for another. I know it is an independent panel, but there must be some consistency! Either, Leicester should have been punished, or Forest shouldn’t have been.
“So two of forests years were outside the prem but they can be punished yet a panel have ruled that Leicester can’t be? Just be consistent one way or the other, premier leagues a shambles,” stated a fourth.

What have the Premier League said about Leicester’s appeal
Shortly after Leicester confirmed their appeal had been a success, the Premier League immediately responded with a statement of their own.
On the official Premier League website, they said: “The Premier League is very disappointed with the Appeal Board’s decision, and the limited reasons provided for it. The League remains of the view that the original Commission took the right approach in interpreting the rules in a practical and workable way that gives effect to their intended purpose.
“In overturning the original Commission’s findings, the Premier League considers the Appeal Board’s decision fails to take into account the purpose of the rules, all relevant parts of the PSRs, and the need for effective enforcement of alleged breaches to ensure fairness among all clubs.
“If the Appeal Board is correct, its decision will have created a situation where any club exceeding the PSR threshold could avoid accountability in these specific circumstances. This is clearly not the intention of the rules.
“It is of critical importance that the Premier League is able to enforce its rules consistently to maintain the principle of fairness. The League will now consider what further action it can take to ensure this is the case.”
