Nottingham Forest have a number of players currently away playing Nations League football during the latest international break.
One of those is Neco Williams and he looks like playing an important part in a new era for Welsh football, with Craig Bellamy taking over from Rob Page after failing to qualify for Euro 2024.
Williams lined up in a more advanced role for Wales during a 2-1 win against Montenegro last night and it would seem that he earned some rave reviews for his efforts.
The 22-year-old has been a regular in the Forest team since Nuno Espirito Santo came on board and he will be hoping to remain in the team and continue earning his place.
Williams was the subject of interest from Atalanta in the summer. However, they didn’t come close to his valuation and he now remains part of the Forest squad.

National media deliver verdict on Neco Williams performance
Wales were rampant inside the opening three minutes last night, with Bellamy’s team going 2-0 up in the early stages.
Montenegro did come back into the game but the game was done and Wales claimed a big three points in the Nations League.
After his performance, some media outlets scored the player’s out of 10 and Williams received some positive comments for his latest outing for his country.
Y Clwb Pel-Droed gave him an 8/10 and said: “Williams began in a more advanced role where he looked to cause issues before moving back to defence following the Roberts injury. He was defensively solid, putting his body on the line and was a workhorse covering every blade of grass.”
Wales Online were also impressed and scored him 7/10, suggesting: “Really assured in possession. Was caught out a couple of times defensively, but otherwise a pretty accomplished outing.”
Williams still very much work in progress at Forest
Last night, Williams registered an assist for his country, passing to Harry Wilson who lashed in an unstoppable long-range effort.
During his time at the City Ground, his attacking prowess has never been in question, however, he’s only managed one goal and claimed just two assists.

That isn’t enough for a player supposedly better when it comes to the attacking side of the game rather than the defensive aspects.
With that in mind, Williams has to keep improving and with options now all over the squad, the Welshman will be looking to bring his form for his country to Forest in the coming months.
