Guy Mowbray excited as he believes ‘tremendous’ signing has already improved at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest stunned the Premier League last weekend when they rocked up at Anfield and burst Arne Slot’s bubble.

We should be careful using Slot’s name as there is a strong possibility that he’s still telling someone somewhere about how disgraceful it is that his team should dare to lose to Forest.

That’s what the Reds did though. Callum Hudson-Odoi broke the hearts of the Anfield fan base who had turned up to the famous stadium last Saturday seemingly ready to cut down the Forest.

Forest were a different animal, with Nuno Espirito Santo producing the level of game plan that has so often been associated with clubs and head coaches much bigger than Forest and Nuno.

In terms of the star man from last weekend, you could have put every name into a hat and simply pulled one out, with a number of players playing beyond themselves.

Ian Wright picked out Forest star Ola Aina, whilst Alan Shearer named no fewer than four Forest stars in his Team of the Week.

Guy Mowbray raves about Nottingham Forest star

The performance produced by Alex Moreno offered a huge insight into what the future might look like for Forest with the left-back playing in a back four.

A Spanish defender, he was making his first start for Forest in the Premier League and he couldn’t have been handed a tougher assignment up against Mohamed Salah.

Mowbray was extremely impressed with his display at the weekend and feels that he already looks improved from his time with Aston Villa.

The Match of the Day commentator told the Forest Focus podcast: “The full-backs, I think it was the best display I’ve ever seen against Mohamed Salah from Alex Moreno, he was just tremendous and that’s not the player I remember at Aston Villa. So if that’s what is to come from him it’s exciting times.”

Forest buying Moreno looks a formality already

The Reds have taken Moreno on a season-long loan with an option to buy him and that already looks pretty nailed on.

If this is what Moreno is capable of against one of the best wide forwards to ever grace the Premier League then it’s scary to think what he could do against other teams.

The challenge for the 31-year-old is to prove his fitness. He had a problem with his hamstring during his time at Villa and he won’t want to break down now he’s in the team at Forest.

If Moreno can prove his fitness – and combine it with some really strong form – then it already feels like a formality that Forest will take the player on a permanent deal next summer.
