The transfer window might be closed but for Nottingham Forest, the recruitment planning doesn’t stop.

Behind the scenes, things are happening with George Syrianos and his team getting their ducks in a row ahead of January.

Forest added 11 new players in the summer with two of them – David Carmo and Marko Stamenic – joining Olympiacos on a season-long loan.

Last week, it was announced that Forest are taking two Irish players on trial next week but they are being looked at by the academy ranks.

The Reds will hope to be in a positive league position come January and that might allow the club to get some stellar players over the line.

Largely, the club’s business was positive in the summer with the average age of the squad lowered and talent added to the ranks.

Nottingham Forest want Jamie Gittens

According to Caught Offside, Forest are amongst a clutch of clubs keen to sign the Borussia Dortmund winger in January.

It won’t be an easy deal to do, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Crystal Palace all joining Forest in watching Gittens in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old has been in the academy ranks at both Chelsea and Manchester City but is now playing senior football with Dortmund.

Typically a left-sided winger, Gittens has been in red-hot form this season, scoring four goals and claiming three assists.

Leaving the club might prove tough for the wide player but English clubs are certainly starting to show an interest in him.

In total, Gittens has made 68 appearances for Dortmund and as a 20-year-old that is pretty impressive.

The cost could prove a very tricky proposition for Forest with the player valued at around £50 million by the Bundesliga giants.

Gittens could be upgrade on Anthony Elanga

When Elanga plays for Forest he normally plays on the right but with Callum Hudson-Odoi playing well on the left, perhaps that would be the position for Gittens to slot in.

Squawka confirms that Gittens would be an upgrade on Elanga – certainly when it comes to dribbling – with his take on success considerably higher.

Elanga was courted by Newcastle in the summer and if the Magpies come knocking in January perhaps there will be a deal to do.

If the 22-year-old does leave, Forest will want a reinforcement and now it appears as though Gittens is in the club’s sights.

Gittens has been playing alongside Elliot Anderson for the England under-21 ranks and that might tempt him into a City Ground switch.

Parting with £50 million might not be in Forest’s makeup for the January window but it would appear as though the interest is high from the club’s perspective.
