Wes Morgan names three Nottingham Forest players that he really likes

Wes Morgan is a man who has a firm foot in both camps when it comes to Nottingham Forest and Leicester City.

The former central defender is back on Trentside in a scouting capacity and as a player, he made 402 appearances for the club.

He was sold by Forest amid a financial crisis in 2011 and would go on to make 323 appearances with Leicester, helping them to a famous Premier League title.

Morgan was at the game on Friday night as Forest beat Leicester 3-1 to climb even further up the Premier League table.

Nuno Espirito Santo is currently serving a three-match touchline ban but it’s fair to say that he’s still managed to get his team playing some brilliant stuff.

Forest look more organised, more resolute defensively and with Gary Neville praising Chris Wood, that must mean he’s doing something right!

What Wes Morgan really loves about Nottingham Forest

Make no bones about it, there is a lot to like about the current Forest team.

The Reds are scoring goals, not conceding them and right now, they’re going into every single game looking to play on the front foot.

The past week has seen the Reds claim a first home win of the season and beat Leicester away from home for the first time in many years.

Morgan was working for the Premier League at the game and he’s delighted with how his boyhood club have started the current campaign.

He said live on air: “There’s Danilo as well, he got a serious injury, I think if they had the strongest team, who knows where they might be.

“I think what I like about this Forest side, they’re very organised, they’re well-drilled they’re prepared not to necessarily have the most possession but they’ll soak things up and then come into their own. They ride the wave and get better and stronger.

“In transition, they’re fantastic with Hudson-Odoi and Elanga and of course when you’ve got someone up top like Wood – he said in his interview, he’s not the type of player to take on three or four players and he needs that service and right now he’s getting it.”

Forest are seriously impressive this season

It took Forest until matchweek 20 to get to 16 points last season and that is frankly woeful.

Given that record, it’s astonishing that the club didn’t get relegated but thankfully, there is now a chance to really build something at the City Ground.

It’s no surprise that Morgan has namechecked Wood but it’s intriguing that he’s picked out the two wingers for praise too.

Both haven’t quite hit their straps yet this season but on Friday they upped the ante and really gave Forest the platform to kick on.

Elanga in particular was vastly improved on the pitch and completed more successful crosses than any other player on the night.

As a youngster he’s bound to have peaks and troughs and thankfully it looks as though he’s got some of his confidence back.

It’s still early days in this campaign but it’s not unfair to say that Forest are on the right track.
