It’s been a great start to the Premier League season for Nottingham Forest as the club looks to avoid a relegation battle.

Forest have remained unbeaten away from home this season and sit seventh in the Premier League table right now.

Nuno Espirito Santo has won praise from Alan Shearer this season for his efforts at reviving Forest this season.

Forest overcame Leicester 3-1 at the King Power Stadium on Friday and it’s now looking like a very good start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The City Ground now welcomes a double-header with West Ham and Newcastle set to visit Trentside before the international break.

There have been a number of top performers in the Forest squad this season with Espirito Santo benefitting from a sensible recruitment drive.

Lewis McGugan hails Nottingham Forest midfielder Nicolas Dominguez

The Argentine midfielder has been in fine form since getting his place in the team back following several injury and suspension issues.

Dominguez has been striking up a lovely partnership with Ryan Yates in recent weeks and the pair work well in tandem.

The £39,000-a-week player is the one who has impressed McGugan, however, and he thinks Espirito Santo has a bit of a soft spot for him.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “Back to Dominguez and I think something that we potentially forget of Dominguez and his role in the squad is that if you look back at the start of Nuno’s time, he always seemed to find a position for Dominguez.

“A lot of the time he played off that right-hand side and so from the start I think Nuno has always liked Dominguez and wanted him to be involved.

“Over this last period of games he’s been given a chance and I think he’s gone to another level.

“Along with Yatesy, along with Anderson, he’s done really well in that midfield three. If you look across the two games we’ve not had Gibbs-White, these players have done a good job.”

Forest have to keep Dominguez after summer interest

Galatasaray were thought to have made a number of offers for Dominguez in the summer but Forest chose not to sell.

When the season started, Dominguez was some way down the list for a place in central midfielders but he’s fought back extremely well.

It’s testament to the squad morale and Dominguez that instead of sulking he’s merely pressed ahead and played football rather than sulking.

Now, he’s benefitting from a run of games and long may his run in the team continue if his current form is anything to go by.

The Argentine’s valuation has risen considerably since Forest paid £8 million for his signature and selling him can’t be an option in January.
