Forest have bounced back from the only defeat against Fulham at the end of October to climb to third place in the Premier League.
Today’s game with Newcastle will provide a stern test for Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
He will return to the touchline after serving a three-match ban and will be buzzing to be back marshalling his team from that position.
Ahead of today’s game, we’ve had a look at how Forest might line up against the Magpies.
Predicted Nottingham Forest XI to play Newcastle
The Forest rearguard
This is one area of the pitch where everything picks itself right now.
Matz Sels has been brilliant between the posts and will continue to be picked ahead of Carlos Miguel.
Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo have struck up a wonderful partnership at centre-back which will also continue today.
At full-back, Ola Aina scored last week against West Ham and will start on the right, with Alex Moreno starting again on the left.
The Forest engine room
Another area that seemingly picks itself right now is in the engine room.
In recent weeks – with Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo long-term injury casualties – Ryan Yates and Nicolas Dominguez have been brilliant.
James Ward-Prowse should return today but he looks to settle for a place on the bench after being ineligible to play against West Ham last week.
Leading the Forest line
This is where we think Espirito Santo has a big decision to make today.
Elliot Anderson will be desperate to play against his former club but with Morgan Gibbs-White now fit, his place isn’t guaranteed.
With Gibbs-White still striving to prove his fitness, Anderson might get the nod with his form of late being extremely good.
Out wide, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga will likely play, with Chris Wood once again set to lead the line.
How Nottingham Forest could line up vs Newcastle:

Also in contention
Jota Silva, Ramon Sosa and Taiwo Awoniyi will all provide attacking options from the bench this afternoon.
Midfield is where Forest aren’t blessed with a number of options and for now, those remain limited.
Neco Williams, Morato and Harry Toffolo could all make up the numbers on the bench from a defensive perspective.
