Nottingham Forest have some history when it comes to the FA Cup and tonight the draw has been made for the third round of this season’s competition.

The Reds have won the competition twice and were robbed of a third trophy in 1991 when Tottenham won the final thanks to help from referee Roger Milford.

Nuno Espirito Santo had an intriguing relationship with the FA Cup last season, needing replays to overcome Blackpool and Bristol City before going out to the eventual winners, Manchester United.

The Reds would dearly love to have a run in the FA Cup and with points on the board in the Premier League, it would be nice if the Forest head coach took things seriously.

Forest draw Luton at the City Ground

The plucky underdogs will head to the City Ground in January to renew acquaintances with Forest in the FA Cup.

There were some interesting comments doing the rounds last year when the pair were in a straight fight for the final relegation place in the Premier League.

It was Luton who succumbed to the EFL and now they face a fight to stay in the Championship after a terrible start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Rob Edwards is still in charge of Luton for now but given the team’s form, it remains to be seen whether that will still be the case when they head to Forest.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis bemoaned Stuart Attwell after last season’s defeat to Everton, questioning whether or not the fact he’s a Luton fan influenced his decisions at all.

Luton fans react to FA Cup draw

It’s fair to say that the Hatters faithful aren’t impressed and actually want their team to send the younger players for this fixture.

Another fan posted: “Oh christ, here we go again…”

Finally, another fan turned round and said: “Just sack it off, what a load of rubbish..”

Forest fans react to FA Cup draw

Most of the Forest fans seem to be impressed with the draw that was made on Monday night, with a very winnable home game in the offing.

Another one claimed: “God I’ve missed you lot. LOL!”

No replays in the FA Cup

Fans who quite like the tradition of Luton’s Kenilworth Road shouldn’t get too excited as replays have been scraped this year.

The game when it’s played on the weekend of the 11th of January will be played to a finish with extra time and penalties on offer if required.

Forest will hope to enjoy a cup run this season and the first obstacle will mean getting past a Luton side who will undoubtedly come to the City Ground and have a go.
