Nottingham Forest have a big decision to make in the striker department.

Nottingham Forest find themselves sitting pretty in fourth position after an inspired start to the season, with the win over Tottenham last time out a sign of how far the Reds have come.

Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t exactly pull up trees last season, but it’s been a totally different story this time round, with a Champions League spot now a possibility.

Chris Wood has been simply sensational so far this season, scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances.

This has meant that Taiwo Awoniyi has struggled for minutes, and the club have now made a decision on the striker ahead of the January transfer window.

Nottingham Forest make decision on Taiwo Awoniyi

Taiwo Awoniyi only has 292 minutes under his belt in the current campaign, with just two starts out of his 14 appearances for the Reds.

Chris Wood’s brilliance in front of goal hasn’t helped things, as just about any striker in world football would struggle to knock the New Zealand international out of the side right now.

According to the Athletic, Nottingham Forest want to keep Taiwo Awoniyi in January.

It’s claimed that Forest still regard him as being an important member of their squad and they are in no rush to weaken their attacking options in January, midway through the season.

Do Nottingham Forest need Taiwo Awoniyi?

Nottingham Forest currently only have Awoniyi as back-up to Chris Wood, which makes a potential injury a big concern for Nuno.

Whilst Awoniyi hasn’t pulled up any trees he has experience in the Premier League and when he’s on song he’s an absolute menace.

Injuries have massively affected the Nigerian striker’s confidence, struggling to reach the same heights of last season since returning.

The only issue Forest have is that any potential striker addition may not want to play back-up to Wood.
