£20m Nottingham Forest player holds talks with two clubs as he seeks deadline day exit

Nottingham Forest are preparing for some late drama on Trentside as the club looks to bring in a player or two before tonight’s cut-off.

So far, it’s been extremely quiet at the City Ground. Andrew Omobamidele has joined Strasbourg on loan, with Joe Gardner leaving to sign for Lincoln for the rest of the campaign too.

Elsewhere, James Ward-Prowse will go back to West Ham later today after slipping down the pecking order, whilst Lewis O’Brien has plenty of late interest from the EFL ahead of the deadline.

There is another player who has found first-team football hard to come by and he’s also attracting interest ahead of the deadline with all parties working to reach a compromise on deadline day.

Emmanuel Dennis holds talks with two clubs on deadline day

Forest landed Dennis in the summer of 2023 for an initial fee of around £10 million with a number of add-ons taking it to around £20 million it’s since been claimed in the media.

Now, according to BBC Sport, Dennis has held talks with Watford and Toulouse in France, whilst Werder Bremen are also monitoring his situation with the window in Germany set to close at 5pm.

There is an issue, however. Finances mean that Dennis will need to reach a compromise on his £60,000-a-week wages with none of the interested parties able to meet that level of salary.

Dennis hasn’t played for Forest in a competitive fixture since May 2023. As a result, the Reds are very keen to get him off the books and find him a new club before the window slams shut later tonight.

Dennis never given proper chance by Forest

It’s been a very tough time for Dennis at Forest. In fairness, it’s hard to imagine that the forward was a Steve Cooper signing and the former boss very rarely gave him a prolonged run in the team.

He’s not really impressed Nuno Espirito Santo sufficiently either and the club have been working to offload him for some time in a bid to get his salary – or some of it – off the books.

Forest have learned a lot in the transfer market since signing Dennis. The club is far more joined up in their approach these days, with the recruitment team left to do the job without any interference.

Dennis will be desperate to get out and play some football. He’s the last remaining member of the Bomb Squad that became so apparent in previous years and hopefully, Forest can move on from players of this ilk.
