Nottingham Forest were second best to Fulham as the Cottagers ran out 2-1 winners in a game that the Reds will want to quickly move on from.

The Reds didn’t quite like right from the off. Nuno Espirito Santo once again deployed three central defenders – just like he had during the 7-0 win over Brighton last time out in the Premier League.

Emile Smith Rowe and Calvin Bassey bagged the goals for Fulham either side of an 18th goal of the campaign for Chris Wood who stroked home following good play from Morgan Gibbs-White.

There really is no need for Forest to panic. The team remain in third place in the Premier League, with Newcastle and Chelsea already suffering heavy defeats this weekend.

Dion Dublin makes Nuno Espirito Santo claim after Forest lose to Fulham

Espirito Santo wasn’t happy in his post-match interview. Managers being forced to perform such duties after defeats is somewhat nonsensical and clearly, he was unimpressed with his team.

Dublin was working on Final Score on BBC after the game. He was quizzed on what happened to Forest and how Espirito Santo will try and get Forest back to winning ways next week at Newcastle.

The former Premier League striker said: “He won’t do anything rash, he will have his say with the players but he will get back on the training ground and it will be business as usual, there’s no need for him to go overboard, Fulham are a decent side.”

Forest haven’t become a bad side overnight

This was always going to be a tough game. After winning on penalties late on Tuesday night, preparing for this game was always going to be extremely difficult for Forest to do.

With Forest in action on Sunday next week, there is a bit of time for the team to regroup and with no midweek action, it will mean a very strong week in store on the training ground.

Espirito Santo has sent himself very high standards. The team have adhered to them so far this season and the hope now will be that Forest can look sharper next week when a trip to Newcastle is in store.

The Reds have a big incentive against the Magpies. Forest are currently six clear of Eddie Howe’s team and a win would see them go a huge nine points clear of Newcastle.
