Nottingham Forest’s draw with Arsenal on Wednesday night was a nervy one, leading to the miraculous defending of Murillo standing out.
The Brazilian defender rarely puts a foot wrong for Forest regardless of the team’s performance with Andy Hinchcliffe hailing Murillo against Newcastle despite the 4-3 defeat.
Harry Toffolo was impressed with Murillo’s Newcastle display too, highlighting just how valuable the Brazilian star is to his Forest teammates when the team may be struggling around him.
Such importance saw Forest tie Murillo to a new contract in January and he’s only continued to show his value to Nuno Espirito Santo, making the interest in him from across Europe’s elite clubs not at all surprising.
In the Arsenal clash, neither side exactly looked like scoring but a clean sheet for the Forest squad was an important way to bounce back from the four goals against Newcastle.
Murillo was at the heart of this clean sheet, with Forest fans taking to social media to react to a particularly incredible piece of defending from their Brazilian star.

Nottingham Forest fans react to ‘world-class’ Murillo vs Arsenal
Rather than a must-win, Wednesday’s clash with Arsenal felt more like a must-not-lose for the Reds, which Murillo had a big say in ensuring.
Whilst it ended up being offside, Murillo acrobatically prevented Martin Odegaard from sweeping home for the Gunners, blowing the minds of Forest fans so much that they had to express their reactions to the feat.

Another fan said: “What a block from Murillo even if it was offside.” With another saying: “Wow what an insane block Murillo.”
More fans reacted to Murillo’s display overall, with one saying: “Murillo is a crazy defender,” and another adding: “Murillo I just stood up and applauded.”
Murillo’s commanding game vs Arsenal in numbers
Arsenal certainly dominated possession and territory on Wednesday, meaning that Murillo needed to stay concentrated throughout the 90 minutes.
| Statistic | Murillo vs Arsenal |
| Dribbled past | 0 |
| Aerial duels won % | 67% |
| Blocks | 2 |
| Clearances | 5 |
| Passes into final third | 14 |
Remarkably, Murillo actually never registered a tackle in the game but his five clearances were crucial in keeping Matz Sels from being too busy in goal.
The Brazilian also won the majority of his aerial duels, complimenting five clearances to keep the Gunners at bay when they piled on the pressure in the first half especially, with the 14 passes into the final third also helping relieve the pressure.
Some may have been surprised to hear that Forest will demand a world-record fee to sell Murillo but with performances like these, it’s hard to argue with Evangelos Marinakis.
