Nottingham Forest allowed Lewis O’Brien to leave the City Ground on loan during the January transfer window, with Swansea City the favoured destination for the midfielder.
It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for O’Brien since leaving Forest. In his first game he helped Swansea win for the first time in 2025 by beating Bristol City but after a defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, boss Luke Williams was shown the door.
O’Brien has been getting regular game time, however, with the Championship outfit fighting to make absolutely certain that they remain in the second tier next season with a few more wins.
The midfielder can count himself very unlucky with how his career has been shaped at Forest. He made 14 appearances during the first half of 2022/23 but was then omitted from the squad after injuries and illness cruelly saw him lose his place in the team.

Swansea fans react to performance of Lewis O’Brien
It’s clear that O’Brien is well-versed when it comes to playing in the Championship and after Saturday’s brilliant 3-0 win over Blackburn, the fans have championed the player.
Another fan posted: “Let’s not let it go under the radar that Lewis O’Brien is a massive massive upgrade on Matt Grimes.”
Finally, another fan added: ” What a performance from O’Brien. Grimes can only dream of doing half the stuff that lad does.”
O’Brien should seek permanent Swansea move
It’s not clear yet who the new manager will be at Swansea but it’s clear that the fan base welcomes the work that O’Brien is doing in midfield.
The player’s days are numbered at Forest and he won’t play for the football club again even if he chooses to kick his heels at the City Ground.
O’Brien is too good to be doing that and after years of going out on loan, it would represent a really positive step if the midfielder signed for Swansea permanently.
O’Brien feels like a good character and after his Forest debacle the time will come in the summer for him to put down some new roots.
