Nottingham Forest were held to a 0-0 draw on home soil by Arsenal as two of the top three teams were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Both teams might have taken all three points on another evening. In truth the game was poor but it does put another point on the board for both teams in the quest for Champions League football.

Martin O’Neill claims that Evangelos Marinakis will be itching for Europe. He believes that the owner has huge ambitions and won’t be settling for finishing lowly in the Premier League each year.

After three away defeats in succession, this was a return to home comforts and it was important to avoid a loss. Forest were far more compact and delivered a pretty strong performance against a very good opponent.

Nikola Milenkovic and Jota Silva react to Murillo performance vs Arsenal

Defensively, Forest needed this performance. After shipping five at Bournemouth, a couple at Fulham and four more at Newcastle, critics had started to question the team’s solidity.

With Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo at the back, however, Forest are a different animal. A couple of bad performances certainly haven’t made them a bad outfit and the defensively solidity was evident once again here.

After the game, Murillo posted on Instagram a wordless message to the fans, which featured a couple of love hearts and an applause emoji as a nod to the brilliant support.

His defensive partner in crime posted a wordless response too, posting a rare message on social media posting a flame emoji, a love heart and a round of applause for the young defender.

Jota Silva didn’t get on the pitch but he posted a message to the Brazilian defender too. The translation read: “Amazing, my brother.”

Murillo stats vs Arsenal

In truth, Murillo has probably played better from a ball-playing point of view but his defending was once again on-point as the Reds stood firm for a huge point against a good side.

Murillo is growing as a footballer and his heroics this season have taken Forest to third place in the division and given the team a real chance of getting into Europe during the campaign.

The 22-year-old will go all the way to the top. If he moves on in the summer, he might point towards the influence of Milenkovic who has added stability and a sound guidance to his game this season.

Murillo once again got the Player of the Match against Arsenal. His brilliant goal-line clearance secured that for him and although the offside flag eventually went up, it was another moment of magic by the star boy.
